Abulbarakaat came hard on Prof. Alaro and others over the issue of Damj around 2017.
The controversy reverberated until around 2021, after which it gradually died down. Prof. Alaro perhaps went back to how he was before 2017. He no longer organised seminars on Damj. Yes, he continued to maintain relationships with those with whom he had associated before 2017—Prof. Kakuri, Prof. Elesin, Shaykh Ajia (our Shaykh), etc.
Then came the issue of Shaykh Halabi. It tore the Salafis apart, just as the issue of Shaykh Muhammad bin Haadee later did. Somehow, the issue of Shaykh Yahya al-Hajooree was managed, and it is still being managed.
Then, around 2024, Abulbarakaat and Prof. Alaro met on the sidelines of an international Islamic conference, and they mutually sought some form of understanding.
A sulh was subsequently planned, during which issues relating to manhaj and otherwise could be discussed and resolved. Some people from Ilorin botched the arrangement, for reasons best known to them.
So, what do you now expect Abulbarakaat to do?
First, Abulbarakaat actually stopped talking about Prof. Alaro after 2017, when the issue of Damj had died down.
Second, should he now start attacking Prof. Alaro unnecessarily when the latter has shown some restraint?
Our brothers say, “But Prof. Alaro has not repented!”
As how?
Other questions arise:
Does Abulbarakaat now see Damj or Ikhwaan as legitimate? Has he stopped speaking against Ikhwaniyyah? Is he now moving with the Ikhwaanīs, such as Baba Shaafi, Baba Ní Iwo, and others?
So, the mere fact that he accepted an offer of peace and ‘family nkọ́ o’ from Prof. Alaro has now made him a destroyer of Salafiyyah?
And if you genuinely believe that Abulbarakaat has deviated to the extent that some of you, such as Lakawi, have called him a mubtadi‘, then why remain so obsessed with him? Is this what you have unjustly labeled as Salafiyyah?
Alfa Oniwiridi and his supporters really need to calm down.
