May Allaah Join Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee with the First Abu Uthman an-Nahdee

The first Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee passed away in the year 100 AH. The second one departed this world last night in Oshogbo.

May Allaah have mercy on both of them.

The first Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee was a prominent Tābi‘ī, a mukhadram who learnt under eminent Companions such as ‘Umar, Ibn Mas‘ood, Ubayy ibn Ka‘b, and many others.

He was also a teacher to renowned Tābi‘een like Qataadah, Ayyoob as-Sakhtiyaanee, ‘Aasim al-Ahwal, and many others.

The second Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee, too, was a dedicated student of knowledge and a teacher to many.

The first Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee was an ‘Ābid (devout worshipper), and we believe this second one shared that same devotion.

The first Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee almost met the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ, for he was in Basrah when the Prophet’s Zakaah collectors came to receive the Zakaah of the people.

This second Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee was likewise a keen seeker of knowledge, always pursuing the teachers of knowledge wherever they might be.

May Allaah envelop them both in His mercy and reunite them in Jannah, in the company of the Messenger of Allaah ﷺ and his noble Companions.

I can only imagine the joy of the first Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee upon meeting the second.

Indeed, I am personally envious of the second Abu Uthmaan an-Nahdee.

A slave hopeful of his Lord’s mercy on the day he too shall die.
