Alhamdulillaah, wa as-salaatu wa as-salaamu ‘alaa Rasoolillaah.
Some time ago, we released a series of articles addressing troubling developments within the Da'wah landscape of South West Nigeria, particularly concerning some individuals who had begun to disrupt the unity and cohesion of Ahlus-Sunnah through arrogant conduct and reckless speech directed at seasoned teachers and du’aat of the region. The series, mainly authored by Aboo Aamir, aimed to confront these excesses head-on with the hope of protecting the Da'wah from further internal harm.
Among those mentioned in that series was our brother Ustaadh Abu Nabeel, Najeeb Abdulgaffar, whose actions and positions at the time made him a central subject of the critique. However, we have now received credible reports, and have seen indications, that Ustaadh Abu Nabeel has sincerely repented from his former ways and has returned to a balanced and upright manhaj.
We say: Alhamdulillaah for his return. We ask Allaah to keep him firm upon the truth, to shield him from all evil, and to make his repentance a means of genuine reconciliation and unity among the people of Sunnah in Ilorin and across South West Nigeria, a unity that is anchored in principle, clarity, and sincerity, and not in hizbiyyah (partisanship), ghuluw (extremism), or tasāhul (laxity).
In light of this positive development, we wish to inform our readers that:
All articles within the series that were written specifically to target Abu Nabeel will, Inshaa Allaah, be removed from the website.
The remaining articles addressing other long-standing comrades whose actions still require reflection and correction will remain published.
Let it be clear that our intention was never personal attack but principled rectification, and where those principles have been heeded and a person has returned to the correct path, it is only right that we respond with gratitude, du‘aa, and relief, not with continued reproach.
Once again, we ask our non-Yoruba readers to bear with the Yoruba expressions embedded in the series; they were included to deliver deeper cultural resonance and clarity for the immediate audience.
We close with the reminder:
“The believer is a mirror to his brother.”
And when the mirror is polished, it reflects beauty, not blemish.
وما توفيقي إلا بالله
Signed,
Aboo Aamir Al-Atharee
