The religion of Islam fights all forms of partisanship and it declares those who engage in it, among the Muslims, as bad Muslims.

On the authority of Abu Hurairah - radiyallaahu an'hu - the Messenger of Allaah ï·º said:

ومن قاتل تحت رايةٍ عَمِيَّةٍ، يغضبُ لعَصَبِيةٍ، أو يَدْعُو إلى عَصَبِيَّةٍ، أو ينصرُ عَصَبِيَّةً، فقُتِلَ، فقَتْلُه جاهليةٌ

"...whoever fights under a blind flag, getting angry for partisanship or calling to partisanship or striving to help partisanship, and is killed, his death is (like that of the time of) Jaahiliyyah...."
(Saheeh Muslim 1848).

What many people understand as partisanship is when you belong to a Jama'ah such as the TMC, Ta'awun, Tablegh, Hizb Tahrir, etc. The concept of ta'assub and hizbiyyah transcend that.

It has many forms and looks. May Allaah save the Ummah from this deadly disease.

The ta'assub and hizbiyyah reigning today, which many people don't pay attention to, is when a set of people exhibit fanaticism towards a scholar or an Ustaadh or a Madrasah or an Islamic Centre such that they treat those who speak well of those people or places as righteous Muslims and whoever criticises any pitfall from them as an enemy of Islam.

Some people treat certain righteous scholars as immune from errors and mistakes and they wrap all their sense of al-Walaa Wal Baraa (loving and hating) around such personalities.

This is a menace that must be uprooted from the midst of the Muslims especially those calling to the Sunnah nay Salafiyyah.

Shaykhul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah - rahimahullaah - warned from that when he said:

ومن نصب شخصا كائنا من كان فوالى وعادى على موافقته في القول والفعل فهو من الذين فرقوا دينهم وكانوا شيعا

"Whoever places down a figure - whoever it may be - and loves and hates upon how (people) agree (or disagree) with his statements and actions, such a person is among those who have splitted their religion and formed parties..."
(Majmuu Al-Fatawa 20/8-9 as cited in ar-Rasaail Manhajiyyah of Ash-Shaykh Abdullaah Sagheer an-Najmee).

So Muslims that call to the Sunnah should watch out lest they fall into partisanship and fanaticism while they know not.

May Allaah grant us safety.
