Al-Imaam adh-Dhahabee - rahimahullah - reported about Al-Imaam Abu Musa Eesaa bn Meenaa Qaloon (d.220AH), student of Madeenah-based Naafi, one of the Seven Great Reciters (according to categorization of Al-Imaam ash-Shaatibee - rahimahullah):
قال علي بن الØسن الهسنجاني كان شديد الصمم ØŒ Ùكان ينظر إلى Ø´Ùتي القارئ ويرد
'Alee bn Al-Hasan al-Hasanjaanee said (1): He (Qaaloon) was severely deaf, he would only look at the lips of those reciting to him and correct them.' Siyar A'laam an-Nubalaa: 10/327
(He could not speak as other people do, but could hear and recite the Qur'aan. Abu Zur'ah Ar-Raazee - rahimahullah - reported Qiraa'aat from him).
(1) Ibn Abi Haatim said in al-Jar'h wa-Ta'deel 6/181:' 'He is trustworthy and a sadooq (that is, his report is hasan).
